
The membership of the Big Bend AFP represents those individuals whose professional lives are dedicated to the furtherance of philanthropy in our community, our state and our nation.
As a member-driven organization, we want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with our local Association of Fundraising Professionals, as well as let others know about our group and its activities.
The emphasis of our site is on connecting fundraising professionals in the Tallahassee area and providing them with information and opportunities to increase their on-the-job effectiveness. Look around for information regarding meetings and events, local job opportunities, membership and our board.

Topic: Speaking Tips for Fundraising Professionals: How to be More Persuasive
Fundraising requires presentations. Sometimes one-on-one; many times in front of dozens of people, some of whom need just a nudge from your speech to stroke a check. By getting your audience more excited you can gain more support for your cause. Here are some ideas for making your next time with a microphone more fun, more effective and raise your value to the organization.
· What to do on short notices.
· How to blend persuasive triggers into your message.
· Make your message more compelling.
· Simple ways to excite your audiences.
Presenter: Dan Clark is a professional speaker, earning a substantial part of his living in front of groups since 1978. Along the way he’s been an auditor, director and CEO. Now self-employed, his business, Dan Clark Associates LLC (danclark.com) serves credit unions and other nonprofits across America with a focus on governance and strategic planning. Dan has had speaking and consulting engagements from Maine to Hawaii, and Key West to Anchorage.
Dan has served the Tallahassee Community on boards and committees of nonprofits including the founding of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Consumer Credit Counseling Service. He was also a founding member of Tallahassee’s Professionally Speaking Toastmasters Club where he continues to participate and develop new material.

This event is an opportunity to publicly acknowledge and express appreciation for outstanding individuals, corporations and fundraising professionals in our community.
We invite you to submit your nominations following the guidelines and criteria below.
2010 AFP BIG BEND Philanthropy Awards
Categories & Criteria Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
This award is presented to a non-profit organization, civic, or professional association that has demonstrated outstanding commitment through financial or in-kind support, provided exemplary encouragement and motivates others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and promotes involvement.
Outstanding Media Outlet/Personality
This award recognizes a company or individual who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to publicizing, and promoting non-profit services; has made a major impact through their exposure, effort and creativity in supporting the community, nonprofit organizations, and special events.
Outstanding Fundraising Professional
This award recognizes a fundraising professional in the Big Bend region who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism with a proven fundraising track record and is a member in good standing of the AFP with consideration to the following:Extent of personal commitment in terms of time and effort;Financial results of his/her efforts;Success in leadership abilities in recruiting and motivating staff;Personal involvement as a volunteer with other non-profits in the Big Bend region;Involvement in furthering the fundraising profession (AFP involvement, mentoring activities; and length of time commitment to the Big Bend region.
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
This award recognizes service by an individual or group of young people (ages K-12) who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the Big Bend community through direct financial or in-kind support and demonstrates ability to motivate others to give.
Nominations must be typed or printed and include nominees name, contact information, including email and telephone number. Nomination text is limited to no more than three (3) typed pages. Support materials and endorsements may be added as desired.

Nominees must reside in or impact an agency in our chapter’s territory which extends from Panama City to Jacksonville. An individual, a public or private organization, a civic or service group, or an AFP member may submit a nomination for each award. Nonprofits organizations may partner on nominations, and in such cases a single nomination form is acceptable. Include a cover letter summarizing the collaboration with the submitted nominations. The deadline for nominations is August 5, 2010.
Complete information is essential to ensure consideration. An awards committee made up of AFP members of the Big Bend will make the final selection for each award. All decisions are final. If in the judgement of the committee, no nominee meets the criteria for a particular category, no award will be given for that category.
This annual event also provides scholarships and educational opportunities to further individual members’ professional development and to strengthen the fundraising capacity of nonprofit organizations through out our region. We hope you can make plans to help us honor those in our community on Thursday, November 18, 2010.
